AMA Supersport Race/FullSpeed Pro Elena Meyersposted in Supersport on Jun 5th 2010 at 1:13pm.

The hard-braking Road America track was heart-breaking for a handful of seriously hard-charging young riders today, beginning with RMR’s Elena Myers, who crashed out just prior to the start of lap 3 while dicing with JD Beach in the top-five. Riding straight out of the turn to take a hard fall in the gravel (her bike tumbling end-over-end), she was up relatively quickly and okay. Series points leader Joey Pascarella (who’d been circulating just inside the top ten) likewise rode into the gravel a few turns later and did not return to the race. And then there were four, with Rockwall’s Cameron Beaubier leading LTD Racing’s Huntley Nash, Nash’s teammate Tomas Puerta, and Beaubier’s teammate JD Beach. The two red and two yellow bikes rode an aggressive race remainder, all backing their bikes into turns and putting pressure on other riders with zero regard for team affinity. As the laps wound down, Puerta tried to take the lead from teammate Nash only to be rebuffed and lose three positions in the process; Beach successfully claimed the lead with two to go, only to have it decisively reclaimed by Nash corners later, the entire front group sailing into corners sideway and mashing up straightaways while James Ripsoli took advance of the front pack’s melee to close the gap between fourth and fifth. With two to go the Rockwall machines took over first and second and Nash crashed out of a close third, a fast low-side that spit the red-liveried rider far off the track. Despite the sudden breathing room, neither yellow bike let up, Beach wicking up the pressure on teammate Beaubier. Beaubier was suddenly tractionless on the slick Road A track, disappearing out of the lead and off the track in Turn 12, leading Beach to gather it up and cross the line more than two seconds ahead of second-place Puerta. Ripsoli hung on to inherit third, his first AMA Pro podium.
