Colton Haaker's WORCS Washington Race Reportposted in Off-Road on Aug 5th 2010 at 2:14pm.

Round 7 WORCS Race Report                               August 1, 2010 Olympia, Washington                                                                                                                                                        THE RACE What can I say about this place! Its full of beautiful pine tress which makes it a really nice venue & an awesome facility to remember and to hopefully come back to in the future! This race was my first WORCS back from my injury and proved to be very difficult. I finished in 12th position which I have mixed emotions about. However, this was my Pro class debut and I was getting my feet wet. I was in the back of the pack after the start and when you start in the back its hard to move forward. The trails that were laid out got super rough and chewed up over the weekend. It was really hard to set your bike up for all the different elements we were dealing with which consisted of rocks, roots, sand whoops, slippery blue groove. It really wasn’t a bad course for me but with my inexperience of racing these for two hours it showed in my overall result. My fastest lap was fifth fastest but continuing on that pace was another story. Everyone had there struggles and I was no different with multiple crashes and struggling with bike setup. Even on my fastest lap I had a crash or two so I know there are things to improve on. All in all I was lucky enough to stay safe I finished the complete two hours and took one step more in the right direction for my career. I got some compliments signed autographs for fans and now that I’ve gotten some rest looking back it was a lot fun! WHAT I LEARNED I learned that I have a lot of work to do. I have to keep practicing hard and working hard every day towards my goals. I have learned to keep it fun and not put so much pressure on racing. It’s one thing to be serious and it’s another to suck the fun out of racing and riding. What did all of us get into riding for? The fun of it. As long as I keep it fun it will be alright! The last thing I learned is that I have little experience racing these WORCS being my third two hour race ever. I rode conservatively and with some luck stayed safe so i can still be competitive in the Geico Powersports Endurocross series! Soon, when I get more comfortable with racing I will race like I practice and hang it out without crashing or making any major or minor mistakes. It will all come in time! And experience! WHAT’S NEXT? I have One more week left in Washington three more races! One motocross on Wednesday, an Endurocross on Friday and another WORCS race on Sunday. After that race Tanner and I will drive straight home through the night to prep the Endurocross race bike and we will be on our way to Oklahoma for round 2 of Endurocross! Thank you everyone for your continued support and thanks for reading! Sincerely, Colton Haaker
