Event:National Enduro – Park Hills, MOTeam: Obermeyer/Am-Pro YamahaEvent: Yamaha YZ 450FFinish: 1st OverallGoing into the sixth round of the enduro series I was sitting in third place only four points out of the lead. My goal for the race was to have a good solid ride and come away from the race healthy and with the points lead. The track was really dry for days leading up to the race, but the skies opened up and a steady rain soaked the track for two days. This was going to be the first muddy enduro of the year and with the track being rocky and muddy a lot of things could happen.I arrived at the track Sunday morning and started to prepare for a long day of racing. It was still overcast out and looked like it could rain at any second. The first two test were held in the OHV section of the park, so there was trails going everywhere so you had to be careful to pay attention and not get off the main trail. It was also really slippery from UTVs and four wheelers. The first two test went well for me. I ended up winning the first two test with only one minor mistake from hitting a rock and bending my brake pedal a little bit. It wasn’t anything too major and I was still able to use it. The third test was the first one out of the OHV section so the dirt was really soft and there were a lot of ruts and rocks. I was able to ride this section mistake free and get the win for test three.Test four was the shortest one of the day, only being five miles. I felt everyone’s time would be a little closer since the track was shorter. I rode this section well but ended up getting beat by Cory Buttrick. Cory rode well that section and got me by 5 seconds. The fifth test was a really fun one. There was a big sand section where you could just pin it wide open. It was a seven mile test and I ended up tying with Buttrick on this section as well. The final test was eleven miles and it had the famous waterfall section. I had been hearing about the waterfall and I wasn’t able to check the waterfall out before riding it so I had no idea what to expect until I got to it. This test was the toughest one of the day with a couple rock gardens and was really tight and muddy. I got to the waterfall section and it was really cool. You had to be paying attention because you couldn’t just ride down, you have to jump off and there was like six drop offs. I ended up riding this section really well and won this test securing the win for my fourth win for the year.I came into the event confident and was able to achieve the goal I set for myself. I have the points lead now but the series is far from over. I need to keep focus and take it race by race. I head to Pennsylvania next weekend for the GNCC series. It should be a good one and I just want to put in a good solid ride. I also want to thank Dale, my dad, and Rachel for all of their help and support I had from them this weekend.Click here for more information >>
