Jimmy Albertson Interviewposted in Supercross on Feb 10th 2010 at 3:15pm.

Jimmy Albertson: You aren't in Kansas any more!02/10/10 written by David Bulmer / photography by David Bulmer Jimmy Albertson isn't in Kansas anymore, or indeed Missouri, which is actually where he was born (before we get any hate-mail from the Missourians). However, much like Dorothy and her tornado, Jimmy Albertson's journey to Italy and lining up for the Mantova Starcross on the Martin Honda team is a pretty interesting tale. And it got even better now that he managed to pass the weekend with flying colours... Anyway, here’s what the youngster had to say in our interview, as we fought through the massive media contingent from Europe: You’ve just finished your first ever European race, what did you think? Pretty good. I came out looking pretty good. I won the one on one racing match, won the whole thing there so that was cool. Came away with a win in my first race over here so that was great. And then in the motos, it kinda sucked because I did superpole yesterday and you only get one lap to go get your gate position, you just get one lap to run around. I botched my lap and I was 11th fastest which gave me 21st gate pick after the Lites class. So I had bad gate picks all day but I managed to get good starts. My Honda ripped and our new Dunlop tyres hooked up awesome in the sand and I ended up getting off to three good starts. My first moto I was running 5th and went down and broke my radiator off my bike so I didn’t get to finish that one. Then I came back in the next one and got 6th. Then the race after that I got 5th. So, overall it was a great weekend because I’m not a very good sand rider so for me to come out here and do this on the conditions that the track was, I was really pumped on myself because I know once I get to a track that suits my style more, I’ll be able to really rip. That’s probably the first time you’ve ever ridden a track like that? Yeah, that’s the roughest track I've ever ridden on in my life. That last moto was insane, the ruts were so deep, you have to stay on your toes. I’m not used to that type of stuff. It was fun for me, but I just wish I could’ve been out there by myself riding because I've never ridden anything like that, and to race on it was just like “holy s*** !”. It’s a lot to take in all at once. But it was a lot of fun. Let’s go back just six months, how exactly did this deal come about? Well it was actually a rumour that started on the internet, that said they were looking at an American rider and my name got thrown in there, just on the internet. Shoot, a couple of weeks went by, maybe even a month went by and finally they contacted me. At the time I was getting close to maybe do something with the TLD guys again next year. I didn’t know quite what I wanted to do, so I came over here to see what these guys had to offer and as soon as I came over and met the crew and got to ride the bike, it was a clear decision for me. The people were great, the bike was awesome. Being able to run a factory bike, I just couldn’t pass this opportunity up so I ended up taking this deal. Although I’m bummed out I don’t get to race in front of my fans in America, but I’m trying to acquire a new fan base over here. It should be good, I’m looking forward to the season, our whole team is great. Everyone is just so motivated, everyone on the team is set towards winning, so I think it’s going to be a good experience for me. Did you have any knowledge of the GPs before, had you watched any of them? Yeah, I always kept track of the GPs. I always thought it was a cool series, getting to race in all these different countries and the fans are just crazy nuts over here, and they are die-hard so I've always kept track of it. Especially this last season, once I knew I was coming over here, I got on the internet and watched every single race from last year. I’m really looking forward to it, some cool races, some really neat places I get to see. I get to travel to something like 14 different countries. It’s just a lifetime opportunity a lot of people don’t ge
