Denver Carlsbad USGP 1980 Movie Premierposted in Motocross on Jun 19th 2010 at 9:09am.

I've been in Denver getting the word out for June 24 Carlsbad USGP:1980 Movie Premier. Denver is buzzing as this is the first time classic ABC Wide World of Sports footage has been seen in 30 years! I was fortunate to become the second American to win this fabled event and will be sharing stories when I hung out with Marty Moates.

It's funny, that many remember seeing race coverage on ABC and can't wait to see Todd Huffman's movie of Marty Moates unbelievable win. Having said that, many of the guys working on the parts counter at motorcycle shops were not even born yet! Fortunately the Mayan theatre on 1st and Broadway will have a full bar open for the meet and greet of riders and celebrities in town for the AMA National at Thunder Valley.

See you in Denver!

Press Release:

CARLSBAD USGP: 1980 - ONE DAY OF MAGIC
Motocross Movie Premiere At The Landmark Mayan Theatre June 24

June 14, 2010 - Denver, CO - Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the first time an American won the United States Grand Prix of Motocross, and coinciding with the AMA National MX series returning to the Thunder Valley Motocross facility Lakewood, Colorado, is the premiere of the documentary Carlsbad USGP: 1980 - One Day Of Magic. The movie premiere will be held at the Landmark Mayan Theatre Thursday, June 24th with a special reception starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by the film at 8 p.m.

Hosted by motocross hero Chuck Sun, who won the USGP himself in 1981, the film covers everything from early Carlsbad USGP history to the 1980 season leading up to that historic day when an unknown privateer named Marty Moates stunned the world by beating the "crowned heads of European motocross" at their own game. "Denver has always been one of my favorite riding areas having won AMA National events here in the past," says Sun. "As the second American to win the fabled Carlsbad USGP, I really wanted to share this inspirational story with the racing enthusiasts of Colorado."

Sun's 1981 Motocross des Nations teammate and former Supercross/motocross champion Donnie Hansen will be joining the AMA Hall Of Famer to help kick off the movie along with Mark "The Bomber" Barnett. "Many of Colorado's top 50 riders are expected to attend, including Arlo Englund," adds Sun.

"With the AMA National MX in town, expect many more surprise appearances that make this a must-attend premiere party! Thanks to the support of Doug Gagnon and Vickery Motosports in Denver, we are excited to bring the movie premiere to the Landmark Mayan Theatre," said Sun.

"Special thanks to all the Denver-area sponsors for making this special local premiere possible, including AHRMA, Donnie Hansen Motocross Academy/DHMA.com, Doug Gagnon, Elite Motorsports Of Loveland, Motogear Outlet, MX1 Suspension, Performance Cycle Of Colorado, Tequila Chamucos, TUbliss and Vickery Motorsports," concludes Sun.
