NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee spotlight: Ned Jarrettposted in NASCAR on Sep 7th 2010 at 10:10am.

Ned Jarrett's NASCAR Cup-level career got off to a slow start, as he only made a handful of starts per season from 1953 through 1957 and didn't compete at all in the series 1958. He was competing at NASCAR's Sportsman level in those days, winning division championships in both 1957 and 1958.

His Cup career got off the ground running in 1959, though, when he made 17 starts and claimed his first two career wins.

After claiming his first wins in 1959, Jarrett went on to post at least one win each season through 1965. During that time, he claimed a couple of championships, the first one in 1961 and another one in 1965. During that time, he also claimed 50 race wins, with more than half of them (28) coming during the two year span that made up the 1964 and 1965 seasons. His win total ties him with Junior Johnson for 10th spot on the all-time win list.
