Caged Heat promises indoor stock car racing thrillsposted in Stock Car on Jan 17th 2010 at 8:08am.
Arena stock car racing is not a new concept. Currently two venues operate indoor stock car racing events in the United States - The Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, and the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A third site (Charlotte, NC) is currently on hold while they find a dedicated operator. The Charlotte market is partially sponsored by NASCAR’s Joe Gibbs Racing.
On the indoor track, these ½ scale NASCAR replicas offer race fans the excitement of Bristol Motor Speedway in the comfort of an indoor stadium. They are capable of speeds exceeding 100 mph, with all the same intensity of a Saturday night slug fest from Thunder Valley.
What they have lacked, up to this point, is the off-track and between race entertainment of rivaling events like those presented by our friends in motocross, minor league stick and ball sports and even, dare I say, “professional” wrestling.
Enter “Caged Heat.”
In the forthcoming Caged Heat racing series, a minimum of 30 full-time drivers will compete each week on a 22-foot tall see-through track banked at 67.5 degrees. The track features 125-foot straight-aways, 80 foot x 180 degree sweeping turns and is surfaced with clear LEXAN panels. The track has been professionally engineered to support 30 cars and drivers while fitting into the same seating configuration as an NHL hockey rink.
Each stop will include two nights of high-speed indoor racing action. Spectators will be treated to a night of entertainment and “in your face” racing enhanced with lighting, audio and pyrotechnic effects similar to a large arena rock show, World Wrestling Entertainment, Monster Trucks and the X-Games.
The Caged Heat Racing Series is slated to begin a national tour in the fall of 2010. It will run from October to March, stopping in 20 cities across the country. It features drivers ranging in age from 13; Blaney Markman from Minnesota; Cannon Ward from North Carolina; and, Marissa Ward from Tennessee; to the “old man” of the series – 61 year old Bobby Rogers of Florida.
For the “addicted” race fan, or the thrill-seeking interested bystander, Caged Heat will likely fill the off-season racing void. You can learn more about the series at www.highoctanethrills.com
