792 Points! That’s what my NASCAR fantasy race team scored at Loudon today. Of course, I’m still mired deep in the standings against my fellow competitors who are a part of the “Grand Ledge Cup Challenge” on ESPN’s Stock Car Racing Challenge. But at least I had a good week.

There are varying methods to picking the five drivers each team in our “challenge” uses to compete.

Some team owners scour series statistics prior to entry, bent on determining driver trends and activating the hottest five. Still others go on pure fan emotion – inserting only their favorites each week regardless of how they disappoint when the checkered flag falls. I can attest to the latter practice; hence my poor showing during the last couple of years Ricky Rudd’s career.

Regardless of philosophy, at least following your fantasy team can make an “exciting” event like Sunday’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301 from the New Hampshire Motor Speedway a bit less mundane. After all, it was raining outside today, so I couldn’t watch the race in my normal manner – Start; first 30 laps; mow the lawn; quick nap; watch the final 30 laps!

And then there’s next week at Daytona. Maybe the “big one” will take out my entire team early on and I can get to painting the shed!
