History was made today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Following his victory in the Brickyard 400 by Jamie McMurray, car owner Chip Ganassi became the only owner ever to win the Daytona 500 (McMurray), Indianapolis 500 (Dario Franchitti) and Brickyard 400 in the same season.
It's an accomplishment ESPN’s Allen Bestwick commented would likely never happen again. I beg to differ.
Just look to the most successful of all Indy 500 owner/winners – Roger Penske with 15 – and another “triple” may be in the cards in the very near future.
With the likes of Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski and Sam Hornish, Jr. on the Cup side and Helio Castroneves, Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Parker Kligerman in Penske's open wheel entries, Target Team Chip Ganassi’s feat could be a one-year record.
While Penske has yet to kiss the bricks with a Cup entry, Busch in the #2 car has been close on a couple of occasions. Hornish knows his way to victory lane in Speedway, Indiana and Keselowski’s time is certainly coming.
Enjoy the moment Mr. Ganassi, and congratulations on this history making victory. But like all records, they’re made to be broken.
