The electric-motorcycle grand prix at Infineon Raceway proved far more entertaining than even a bunch of electro-geeks like us would have
expected. The guys at Zero Motorcycles have put together a video so the
rest of you can see the bikes in action.
The 46-minute video (above) covers the entire June 16 race along with
race winner Shawn Higbee’s crazy post-race burnout and the obligatory
trophy presentation on the podium. Anyone with a short attention span
can watch the two-minute highlight clip (below). A lot of the footage
came from the cameras aboard the Zero
bikes ridden by Kenyon Kluge and Higbee.
There are a couple of things to look for. First is the dogfight
between Higbee and Michael Barnes as they repeatedly pass each
other to lead the race. Higbee’s machine was more nimble, but Barnes’
(No. 80) was more powerful, so Higbee (No. 23) would get ahead in the
curves only to be passed on the straights.
Also keep an eye out for the gorgeous electric
old-school Norton Featherbed racer (No. 37) with the Norton John
Player Special replica fairing. It was by far the coolest bike on the
grid. By the way, the fastest racers were lapping Infineon about 20
seconds slower than the AMA superbikes that raced during the same
weekend. Not bad for technology still in its infancy and a racing series
in its second year.
Yeah, the plugs for everyone at the start of the video are a bit
annoying, but they don’t last long and Zero’s gotta pay the bills. Enjoy
the videos and check out all our TTXGP coverage here.
The next race in the North American TTXGP series is June 3 to 6 at Road
America.
